FIRE SAFETY TRAINING COURSES & REQUIREMENTS
Workplace Fire Safety Training Requirements
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers and Responsible Persons in England and Wales must provide employees with appropriate fire safety information and training. This helps staff understand fire risks, emergency procedures and the actions they should take if a fire occurs.
Fire wardens, also known as fire marshals, can play an important role in workplace fire safety. They support evacuation procedures, raise awareness of fire hazards and assist with emergency arrangements. However, the appropriate number of trained wardens depends on your premises and its specific risks.
For example, building size, occupancy levels, shift patterns and evacuation arrangements can all influence your training requirements. A suitable fire risk assessment can help identify the responsibilities, training and personnel your workplace needs.
Fire Extinguisher Training
Our fire extinguisher training helps employees understand the different types of extinguishers and their appropriate uses. The course combines essential fire safety knowledge with practical guidance to improve workplace awareness and confidence.
Fire Extinguishers and Their Use
- Understanding the different types of fire extinguishers.
- Identifying extinguishers using their labels and markings.
- Choosing the correct extinguisher for different fire risks.
- Understanding when and how to use an extinguisher safely.
Practical Fire Extinguisher Training
Where appropriate, practical training includes a controlled fire exercise. Each participant has the opportunity to practise using a fire extinguisher under supervision. This helps reinforce safe techniques and highlights the importance of personal safety.
Fire Safety Awareness in the Workplace
Effective fire safety training helps employees recognise potential hazards in their working environment. It also improves their understanding of fire protection equipment, emergency procedures and everyday fire prevention measures.
As a result, staff can take appropriate precautions, report potential hazards and respond more confidently in the event of a fire.
Fire Safety Equipment and Emergency Procedures
- Understanding the fire protection equipment and systems installed on site.
- Recognising fire safety signs and emergency information.
- Understanding how fire alarm systems alert building occupants.
- Knowing the appropriate actions to take when a fire alarm activates.
- Understanding workplace evacuation procedures and escape routes.
Identifying and Preventing Workplace Fire Risks
- Recognising potential fire hazards within the workplace.
- Identifying areas where fire risks may be higher.
- Understanding the importance of good housekeeping and safe storage.
- Knowing how to report potential fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Encouraging everyday fire safety awareness and vigilance.
Fire Warden Training
Our fire warden training course helps designated staff understand their responsibilities and develop practical fire safety knowledge. It covers relevant fire safety legislation, workplace hazards and the role of fire wardens during an emergency.
The course accommodates up to 15 people per session and takes approximately three hours to complete. During the session, participants develop their understanding of fire risks, emergency arrangements and appropriate fire safety precautions.
By providing suitable fire warden training, businesses can help their designated personnel support workplace fire safety and evacuation procedures.

Questions To Ask If Your Fire Alarm Was Installed Before 2006
If your fire alarm system was installed before 2006 using twin and earth (T&E) cable, it may still be operational but it does not comply with current British Standard BS 5839-1:2017. While older installations are not automatically considered unsafe, they should be inspected by a qualified fire alarm engineer, supported by an appropriate risk assessment and maintenance plan. In most commercial, communal, or multi-occupancy buildings, T&E cabling used for sounder and detection circuits should be replaced, particularly if the system is being upgraded, extended, or modified, to meet current fire safety standards.
