We’re right in the middle of World Cup fever and it would appear the football fans around the UK are feeling quite positive about England’s chances after their 6-1 win against Paraguay last week. I’m sure we’re waiting with baited breath to see how they do against Belgium tomorrow.
At SS Systems we have many football fans. I’m sure many of our friends in the industry know of Andy Stokes’ alliance to Sheffield Wednesday. But how many of you know that one of our engineers used to play for Charlton Athletic, and now runs a football club for children aged 5 – 18?
So when Anthony came to us a few months ago and mentioned that he was playing in a charity game for Doncaster Legends and Eves Trust, we were more than keen to sponsor him.
Eves Trust is a charity close to Anthony’s heart. They do amazing work with people with serious or terminal cancer in Doncaster. The money they raise goes to patients and their families, assisting and helping them in any way they can.
As part of the sponsorship deal we received two VIP match day tickets and I must say it was an absolutely fantastic day. I had never been to one of these events before and I was struck with how well the whole day was managed, with the quality of the food and with how many famous footballers were also on the teams! It was so good to see every participant give their time willingly to support such a great local cause.
The score was 8-4 to the Doncaster Legends, our very own Anthony scoring in the second half making the event even more exciting!
If the event comes round again next year I will certainly be recommending we take a coach load across and make a full SS Systems day of it, and would encourage others to support the day.
Here’s us being presented with the match day ball. As I say, great day, great fun, great cause.
