We are very excited to learn that one of our newest recruits, John Sanderson, has just been accepted to run in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon.

John joined us as Operations and Project Design Engineer a few months ago. His technical expertise and commercial outlook are invaluable to us in our quest to grow the company over the coming years. John is a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to fire regulations, with an impressive history in the industry.

So how did he get into running?

It all started in 2012 when he started running to lose weight. It seems he was bitten by the bug! Since then he’s been running regularly and currently competes for the North Derbyshire Running Club. The club caters for beginners right through to competitive runners. Training is varied and consists of speed, stamina and strength and endurance sessions designed to suit a wide range of running abilities both male and female.

John had avoided marathons up to now, but for some strange reason (known only to runners) he changed his mind and ran his first marathon a few months ago in Manchester. He achieved a very respectable time of 2 hours 52 minutes (he called it respectable, we called it amazing!).

He needed a time of 3 hours 5 minutes to enter via the “Good for Age” category of the London marathon so he’s smashed it.

We’re looking forward to cheering him on in 2018 – the 22nd April is in our diary. We’re confident that he will smash his personal best and burst through that finishing line with a smile.
