It’s not easy being an engineer at any time of year, but being an engineer on call over the Christmas period is always difficult – when the “Christmas call out” rota is issued, it always gets an interesting reaction!

At a time when “white collar” workers are enjoying time with our families, our on-call engineers risk getting called on to attend faults, covering the whole of the UK. Thankfully this year we had very few to deal with, but I expect one is enough at this time of year.

One of our call outs was for a property we don’t currently maintain. A client of ours who has properties throughout Yorkshire had a problem with one of their buildings currently under contract with another provider, but they had been unable to attend on this occasion so our client rang us.

When you have a fire alarm going off, especially in an occupied building, it’s essential to get the system sorted as soon as possible. Our engineer was able to attend site and get the situation resolved.

To have a client get in touch with a salesperson straight after the Christmas break, especially to say thank you, is a great way to start the new year. Her words to the engineer were:

“He (the client) had nothing but praise for the engineer that helped him, and he’s looking forward to working with us in the future”.

Andy – our MD’s response on hearing the news was to send an email to the engineer concerned, saying:

“A big “Thank You”. Your professionalism has benefited us all and demonstrated exactly how we all should respond, especially when it goes against the grain being on call during the festive break. Well Done!!”

We are extremely proud of our engineering team – they are hard-working, conscientious and a credit to SS Systems. It’s times like this when you are reminded how crucial it is to have good people working for you, and to keep letting them know just how much their dedication is appreciated.
