Weekly Fire Alarm Testing Guidance
Weekly fire alarm testing is vital to ensure the reliability and readiness of the fire detection and alarm system in protecting life and property. Regular tests confirm that alarm sounders, manual call points, and signalling paths, including connections to any Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), are functioning correctly and that any faults are identified and addressed promptly. Conducting tests at the same time each week also helps occupants recognise the alarm sound and reinforces fire safety awareness, while providing early warning of potential system issues before an actual emergency occurs.
- Place the system on “Test” with your ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre).
- Choose the Manual Call point to test this week.
- Activate chosen Manual Call point using your test key (Sounders will now activate as per your Cause & Effect programming).
- Check the address and location details displayed on the Fire Panel Screen matches the Manual Call point.
- Once the details match, press the ‘Silence Alarms’ button displayed on the panel screen (panel controls must be active) the Sounders will stop ringing.
- Reset your chosen Manual Call point by clipping the drop down front back in place.
- Once you are happy the Manual Call Point has been physically reset (can no longer see yellow strip) press “Reset” button.
- The Active device is Fire should now disappear from the Fire panel Screen
- Weekly test now complete and Systems is reset.
An ARC is a remote monitoring facility that receives and monitors alarm signals from protected premises, such as fire alarms, intruder alarms, or CCTV systems, 24/7. When a fire alarm activates in a building that is connected to an ARC, the signal is automatically transmitted to the ARC via a secure communication link (e.g., landline, GSM, IP connection). The ARC then verifies the alarm and notifies the fire service or other designated contacts according to the agreed response plan.
