This is a very important topic. Regular testing of your emergency lighting system will not only provide peace of mind that the workplace is safe. But more importantly, if you have any power disruptions, your building can be easily evacuated.
Your building power supply can fail due to a situation like a simple power cut or a fire.
Emergency lighting is designed to come on automatically to provide immediate illumination.
How often should we test?
As a general guide, we believe it’s good to get into the habit of running a regular short test every month. Just to check everything is in working order, clean and showing no signs of damage.
We have created an infographic of the things you need to check on a regular basis.
Once a year it’s of equal importance to run a full rated duration test. This is where the emergency lights provide 3-hours of illumination. So the test needs to be for the full 3 hours.
