Apprentice To Mentor Supporting The Next Generation Of Fire Safety Professionals
SS Systems is continuing its commitment to developing the next generation of engineers, with installation engineer Luke recently mentoring new apprentice Lewis during a hands-on fire alarm installation training session at the company’s office. Using SS Systems’ dedicated engineering training boards, Luke guided Lewis through the process of completing a first fix on a fire alarm system – an essential early stage in installation where cabling, mounting points and key infrastructure are prepared before the final system components are installed.

The practical session forms part of SS Systems’ wider training and development programme, designed to ensure apprentices gain real-world experience alongside experienced engineers while learning the technical standards required for modern fire safety systems. For Luke, the opportunity to train Lewis represents a full-circle moment in his career. Luke originally joined SS Systems as an apprentice himself and, after successfully completing his apprenticeship, secured a full-time position as an installation engineer. Today, he is helping pass on that knowledge to the next generation of engineers entering the industry.
The company believes that this type of peer-to-peer learning is one of the most effective ways to build technical expertise while reinforcing the organisation’s culture of working as one team. Apprentices at SS Systems benefit from structured training that combines classroom learning, practical workshop experience and on-site support from qualified engineers. By investing in people from the very beginning of their careers, the company ensures it can continue delivering reliable, compliant fire and security systems for customers across multiple sectors.
Developing talent internally also supports SS Systems’ long-term commitment to the industry, ensuring engineers understand not only the technical aspects of installation but also the importance of safety, quality and regulatory compliance. The company’s strong focus on quality and professionalism is reflected in its industry accreditations. SS Systems is accredited by CHAS, registered with BAFE and certificated by SSAIB. The business also operates in line with BS EN ISO 9001:2015 and is approved by Constructionline.
These credentials help ensure that every fire, security and safety system designed, installed and maintained by SS Systems meets the latest British Standards and regulatory requirements.
