Well done to John Sanderson for completing the London Marathon in an amazing time!

Not only was the 38th London marathon the hottest on record, it was also the largest with 40,255 runners crossing the finish line. Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon, crossing the line in 2:04:17. Two minutes later, Sir Mo Farah crossed the line in 2:06:21, beating Steve Jones’s 33-year British marathon record, and claiming third place on the podium.

Only a few minutes later, John crossed the line! In an amazing time of 2 hours 55 minutes, he crossed the line to finish in position 692 overall, 681 in all the men who ran and an awesome 470 in his age category.

John has been in training for 16 weeks, running 20 miles in snow, going out from work and running round Rotherham and spending hours putting in the hard work. It’s a major achievement and we’re really pleased for him. He said:

“The experience was phenomenal, the support on the streets along side the runners and seeing family and friends spurring me on made it a fantastic day.”

Whilst he is officially in the “recovery” stage at the moment, he has already set sights on the Chicago half marathon later this year, and will be submitting his application to run again in the London marathon. John – we wish you all the best. We’ll have a word with Andrew to see how many of us can be official cheerleaders for the Chicago race!
